The K&K Sound Banjo Twin is designed to reproduce the true banjo sound with very natural tone quality and with very little effect on the acoustic tone. The Banjo Twin works well in passive mode, especially if acoustic amps are used. If a preamp should be necessary, we recommend our Pure Preamp. Technical Specs Cable length: 10" Pickup size: 27mm diameter Impedance: High ohmic Jack: Stereo TRSS endpin jack wired mono Installation Notes The Banjo Twin does not require any alteration to your instrument. All the components are installed with special double-sided tape or self-adhesive fasteners. These will not harm the finish of your instrument and residue can be removed with WD-40. The two pickups are installed on the inside of the banjo head using a removable self-adhesive fastening system, specially designed for the installation on the banjo head. This adhesive is affixed to the two outer edges of the pickups only. We call this the "Catamaran" mounting technique. Using this technique, the center portion of the pickup is free-floating, enhancing response while reducing the adhesive surface by about 40% and therefore having only very little effect on the acoustic sound. The Banjo Twin system is equipped with a multi-use endpin jack. This jack can be mounted three ways: on the outside of the banjo (see photo), mounted with internal drill-through installation, or installed in a slot of the outer rim. For the external-mount, the jack is attached with K&K's self-adhesive dual-lock system (similar to Velcro but much stronger). It can be indefinitely opened and closed without wear and tear and guarantees super holding power with absolutely no mechanical noise. This way, the jack can be temporarily removed to fit your instrument into a carrying case.
The Definity System is a brand-new solution that delivers K&K's natural pickup power to a variety of difficult to amplify acoustic instruments. Definity is designed for floating bridge instrument, semi-acoustic electric guitars with Tune-o-matic bridges, Banjo, Cello, Double Bass and many ethnic or folk instruments like Bouzouki, Saz, etc. The pickup is only 6/1000 of an inch thin and measures 1 3/4” x 3/4” total. They call it a “compression pickup” because it is especially suited for “wedged” applications under a floating bridge. However, the pickup element is capable of transmitting sound like soundboard transducers as well. In fact, we found that the best tone is achieved if the pickup is mounted so it is partially “wedged” and partially open on the soundboard. The Definity pickup reaches its true potential with a matched preamp (included in the price!). The Definity Preamp, which features a phase switch, adjustable mid and treble controls (via trimpots), and a 1/4” line out, makes the package complete.
The K&K Sound Mandolin Twin Internal is a fully internal pickup system. Both the tranducers and the endpin-jack are mounted inside the mandolin. The transducers are attached with double-sided adhesive tape, providing a robust installation with minimum sound interference. Installation of this system should be done by an experienced luthier or mandolin tech. If you are looking for a system that is easy to install by yourself please check out our Mandolin Twin Fusion system. Made in USA.
What makes the Pure XLR Mach 2 Preamp sound so good? The circuit runs on a “voltage doubler” that provides 18 volts to the internal components even though it uses standard 9 volt input voltage. The result is high-powered clarity that simply cannot be achieved with a regular 9-volt circuit! Electronic circuits work more efficient on higher power and electronic components designed for low power consumption will never sound as good as the more power-hungry components that are optimized for tone quality. There is a direct relation between power consumption and sound quality, meaning that preamps with 200+ hours battery life will compromise on sound quality. Phantom powered preamps, depending on their complexity, also need to compromise on power consumption issues as phantom power fluctuates and diminishes with the number of consumers connected. Generally, low power consumption equals less high-end response, less headroom (circuit peaks or overloads sooner), and less overall clarity. At K&K, we've always favored sound quality over power consumption in our external preamp line, but with the Pure XLR Mach 2 Preamp we went even further and run it on 18 volts. This feature alone would make the new Pure XLR Mach 2 Preamp worthwhile, but we added a few more things that players have asked for: +/- 15dB Parametric band that covers 150Hz to 700Hz with adjustable notch width Full bypass of parametric stage if not needed Tuner output Mute switch input In addition to these features: Proprietary K&K high-power three band EQ (bass – mid – treble) Adjustable input gain Phase switch Master volume Simultaneously usable 1/4” line out and balanced XLR – DI output The tuner output allows you to connect your tuner “open ended," so there will be no signal degradation by passing through it and no switch noise. The Pure XLR Mach 2 Preamp preserves harmonics and overtones and provides a more open and true acoustic sound response. The additional parametric band allows you to fine-adjust the low mid / high bass band for optimum tone and feedback control. We know our customers want the best and truest acoustic tone and we are proud to introduce this new preamp. We believe it brings out the best!
The Trinity Mini is a dual source pickup/internal mic system with a dual-channel preamp for steel-string guitars. The three-head, bridge plate pickup is based on the same technology as our Pure pickup. The Trinity Microphone features an integrated 5" gooseneck (allowing it to be positioned in a number of ways, incuding outside the soundhole) and 20-20,000 Hz frequency range. The Trinity Preamp is a dual-channel, external, beltclip model with adjustable gain-vol-bass-mid-treb for each channel. The system comes with a stereo endpin jack and a 6-foot stereo cable--no soldering required! The Trinity Mini delivers an even more authentic tone than the Pure pickup alone. The mic adds some extra air and shimmer to the overall sound, which is very beneficial to the purely acoustic guitarist. The mic can be included in the mix as much as the situation allows for, using the preamp's controls. As a general rule, the lower the stage volume, the more mic can be blended in. This system is great for home recordings too!
The Twin Spot is a two-head piezo transducer that can be used to amplify a wide variety of instruments, including guitars, saz, oud, bouzouki, balaleika, cello, dulcimer, bongos, and many more. Positioning the pickup heads at two spots results in a more balanced sound structure and a broader frequency range. The small heads are only 1/2 inch in diameter, allowing them to be installed unobtrusively and in hard-to-reach areas of an instrument. Made in USA. Specifications: Pickup head diameter: 1/2″ Height: 1/32″ Impedance: High ohmic Length of connection cables: 1 ft. each
The Violinissimo is our signature pickup for violins and viola. It has three pickup heads; two bigger pickup heads are wedged between the violin and each bridge foot and the third, smaller pickup head is wedged into one wingslot of the bridge. The position underneath the bridge feet produces an extremely voluminous and smooth sound because the bridge applies vertical pressure to the piezo crystals. In this spot, the low frequencies and the unique sound characteristics of the violin's corpus are picked up. The pickup in the bridge wingslot adds to the sound's brilliance. Together, the three pickup heads transmit a perfectly balanced violin sound. Other violin pickups tend to over-emphasize the high-end frequencies, but the Violinissimo eliminates this problem from the get-go. The jack is attached to the string holder with a special dual-lock Velcro adhesive, which is distinctively stronger, more durable, and sturdier than standard Velcro. It can be detached and re-attached repeatedly without wearing out or affecting the pickup integrity. The Violinissimo is also available as the Violinissimo Pro with a 1/4" carpenter jack that clamps onto the bottom/side of the instrument. Please note this carpenter jack is too small for violas. We can substitute a larger clamp for violas on special request. Technical Specs Bridge feet transducers: Round 1/2" Height: 1/32" Impedance: High ohmic Bridge wing transducer: Rectangular 1/2" x 5/16" Height: 1/32" Impedance: High ohmic Length of the 3 Pickup connection wires: About 5" Jack (Standard model): RCA female Jack (Pro model): 1/4" carpenter jack
